Distrust of Federal Government
Does this apply to ME??????? After all, have we not as common, God-fearing citizens had "the rug pulled out from under US" so many times that Distrust of government is a "normal reaction".
But this quote comes from a Founder, who did not trust "unlimited power" in the hands of government and he states:
"It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly no such universal power was meant to be given them. It [the Constitution] was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect." --Thomas Jefferson, Opinion on a National Bank, 1791
And in another place, Mr. Jefferson wisely said, "Bind them with chains to the Constitution." Hence the Oath of Office to "uphold and defend the Constitution." The "binding" had to do with the sacred Oath, but when there is no "fear of God" and men will not stand good to their word, then WHAT?????
Just what we have now in government.
